@rdlee re. Lufthansa: :D epic!

I used to fly MAS exclusively from Europe to New Zealand via KL for a number of years. I've tried just about all the major airlines on various long-haul trips to a number of global destinations and I can also confirm the quality of MAS on-board food. On my final flights back from NZ to EU I actually cashed in some frequent flyer miles and upgraded all flights to Business. SWEET!!! First thing's first: Asian hospitality is second to none. period. That goes not only for air travel, but also for all other aspects of hospitality. I must strongly encourage this remains the case going forward. Secondly, it's the small details that really count and that last extra 2% that switch and experience from mediocre or even good to excellent with cherry on top! In the case of MAS Business class I just adored how the attendant came by with her nice little push-cart covered by an embellished white tablecloth and fine selection of dishes. I actually got the feeling I got SERVED and not FED!

Oh, and regarding the hostesses...at least the ones I can remember on my last MAS flights...ummmm...I definitely would! ;)

Nat, you rock. period.

Idris Jala must have listened to his customers and actually did something in the way of improvements. In the late 80s and early 90s, I recall trying the wines they served on board. They were truly awful. It turned out that the people who were awarded the in-flight meals contract were politically-connected and were charging heaps of money to deliver awful and inedible fare. They could not be bothered because they only saw the ringgit sign. MAS was going downhill and was losing hundreds of millions yearly until the Malaysian Government took a drastic step to look for someone who could turn the airline around. The airline was becoming a major embarrasment. Political cronyism nearly bankrupted the pride of the country.

The famous 70s rock singer Jethro Tull once said, "to qualify as a country, one has to have a beer or an airline". Obviously he did not fly around enough to note that there were airlines and there were airlines.

I can write pages of jokes about airlines.

Remember the joke about Aeroflot as the "flying coffin"? I wonder what kind of food they served?

What about the Belgian airline SABENA..? Such A Bad Experience, Never Again..!

Or Philippine Airline (PAL), Plane Always Late..

Thanks for all your positive feedback. I am salivating at the thought of a nice MAS meal right now. Do you think the flight attendants will say yes if we asked for a second helping? =)
